Which youngsters if any can make the breakthrough this season?

Thus far, Reds boss Rafa Benitez hasn't shirked from blooding a whole host of youngsters during this summer's pre-season schedule. The likes of Stephen Darby, Daniel Pacheco, Emiliano Insua, Sebastien Leto and Jay Spearing have all performed with distinction after receiving their opportunity to impress the boss.

Meanwhile, after making a remarkable debut for the first team away at Arsenal last season, Damien Plessis has continued to impress with his calmness and physical presence in the Reds midfield. And with the highly-rated Krisztian Nemeth still to return from international duty, and exciting French gem David Ngog expected to sign for the Reds from PSG in the coming days, Benitez' overhaul of the Reds' youth policy could see a number of youngsters forcing their way into the first team reckoning this coming season.

But who, if anyone, do you believe is most likely to make the breakthrough? And what do you think of the youngsters performances so far? Are you impressed and excited about the future? Let us know below.

Is Dean Saunders the worst co-commentor ever?

Alright I know it's Liverpool tradition that you don't slag off players who used to star for the Reds but I have to ask you all this question. Is Deano the worst co-commentator in history or am I just making a bad call?

The former Welsh international striker scored 25 goals in 61 games for the Reds in the early 90s, but unfortunately, in my opinion at least, he's failed miserably to transfer his talent for putting the ball in the net to the gantry and microphone.

Apart from his numerous contradictions of himself, I remember two brilliant occasions in the Champions League qualifier last season in Toulouse when Deano boobed. Firstly, when an overhit cross came in from out wide and cleared Peter Crouch, Saunders came up with the following pearl: "If only he was taller." What, if only he was taller than 6 foot 7ins Deano?

Does Pennant have a future at Anfield?

It's been said about a thousand times already this summer - Liverpool desperately need to bring in some widemen. Even Reds boss Rafa Benitez admitted that the wide areas of the team were in need of attention before the end of the transfer window.

Hence, he brought in two attack-minded full-backs in the shape of Philipp Degen and Andrea Dossena, which suggested the emphasis for getting down the wings could fall upon the pacy new recruits' shoulders.

Rafa has continually been linked with a whole host of names this summer including Ricardo Quaresma of FC Porto, Albert Riera of Espanyol and David Bentley of Blackburn Rovers. Meanwhile, one wide player who has been linked with a move away from Anfield recently, insists a move away is not on his agenda. Jermaine Pennant, who has looked lively in his three pre-season outings so far, said: "I'm not thinking about leaving at all."

But will it be his decision? Is he good enough for Liverpool? Has he delivered enough in his two seasons at the club? And finally do you think Rafa will let him go if a suitable bid comes in?

Why won't Reina wear Number One?

Okay, this really isn't that important. But I've been thinking and I'm a little bit puzzled why Pepe Reina hasn't taken the number one shirt since Jerzy 'Wobbelaar' Dudek left Anfield to join Real Madrid.

We've had some wonderful goalkeepers wear that prized shirt down the years. Tommy Lawrence, Ray Clemence, Bruce Grobbelaar, Sander Westerveld (hmmm perhaps not great in this case but okay). So why hasn't Pepe snapped it up?

I know the previous incumbents didn't have the best of times wearing the number one shirt. James, Westerveld and Dudek all had a few howlers. But that doesn't mean it would happen to Pepe. He's already had a couple (but just a couple) of forgetful moments wearing 25 so I don't think a change of number would make much difference.

I'm not a massive fan of squad numbers to be honest with you. It just seems strange seeing a keeper wear number 25 and a centre-back like Martin Skrtel wearing number 37. Why can't it be like the good old days of one to 11?

What do you think? Should Reina take the number one jersey? Do you even care? Let us know below.

Would you be sorry to see birthday boy leave?

It's Liverpool striker Andriy Voronin's 29th birthday today. But will he be here to celebrate the big 30 next summer?

He certainly hasn't set the world alight since his arrival on Merseyside on a free transfer last July. After a promising start which saw him hammer home a match-winning strike against Toulouse in the south of France just four days after signing for the Reds, the somewhat less than 'Divine Ponytail'ed forward only managed a further five goals in 26 appearances for the Reds last term which hardly endeared him to the Kop.

Upon his arrival it appeared he was already fighting an uphill battle to win over the fans who were less than enamoured by Rafa Benitez' first acquisition of summer 2007. However, after spending 12 years playing in the less-frenetic German Bundesliga, were we expecting too much from the Ukrainian?

Two goals in two games in pre-season so far including an exquisite chip in the win over FC Lucerne suggests he may have finally dug out his old shooting boots, but with a number of German clubs rumoured to be interested, would you shed a tear if Andriy left Anfield after just one season?

Will we actually sign Keane? Are Spurs mad?

The Liverpool Echo has today reported that Robbie Keane could be unveiled as a Liverpool player within the next 48 hours after Spurs reportedly gave up on their efforts to keep the Republic of Ireland striker at White Hart Lane.

The alleged price for the 28-year-old is believed to be somewhere in the region of £20 million. Personally, I think most Liverpool fans would accept such a hefty price for an experienced international whose presence should only benefit our club's push for the Premiership title. However, with fellow forward Dimitar Berbatov also looking likely to make a multi-million pound move to our arch-rivals Manchester United, the question remains, what are Spurs playing at?

Carson should have been makeweight in Barry deal

Okay. I'm not criticising Rafa Benitez when I say this, but Scott Carson has left the Reds for a fee of £3.25 million to join West Bromich Albion, yet when Aston Villa wanted to buy him they were quoted in the region of £10 million to secure his signature.

Now the bit I can't understand is - if Liverpool really want to sign Gareth Barry from Villa but Martin O'Neill isn't willing to budge on their valuation of £18 million for their skipper and Liverpool aren't willing to pay over the odds to get him - why haven't we offered them Carson plus say £13-14 million?

I know many of you don't rate Carson that highly and a number of you don't think Barry is worth £18 million, but with Villa remaining defiant on the amount they want for the England midfielder, then surely the ideal situation for us and them would have been to make the deal happen with a player plus cash offer. I'm sure we could have got more value in such a deal than the £3.25 million we're receiving for Carson anyway.

What do you think? Did Benitez make a mistake by quoting Villa £10 million for Carson? Should he have used him as a makeweight in the Barry deal? As usual let us know your opinions on the subject below.
